Background Checks

General Information:

In order to best insure the safety of school children, many school systems are now requiring background checks for all their personnel.  Many districts are now also starting to require all CMU students and faculty who have business in their schools to follow the same policy.  CMU is working in partnership with the Gratiot/Isabella RESD to accommodate our prospective student teachers by scheduling times on campus for the fingerprinting to take place the semester prior to their student teaching semester.  Detailed information will be sent every semester to the students that this will affect.

Mt. Pleasant Public Schools Background Check Policy

The Mt. Pleasant Public Schools Board of Education has approved a policy requiring all student interns (midtier students), student teachers, parent volunteers, and anyone else working with students in a classroom or extra-curricular activity to submit to a background check.  The school district has developed a form and a process which CMU students must follow if they want to be placed in any Mt. Pleasant Public Schools setting.
