Cohort Program
General Information

What is the Cohort Program?

The Cohort Program is a planned sequence of required EDU professional education courses.  It was developed to guarantee seats in these professional education courses in the two semesters immediately following admission to the Teacher Education Program.

All students who are admitted to CMU's Teacher Education Program follow the prescribed series of classes, known as the cohort classes, based on the certification they are seeking.  The sequencing of these classes into two semesters allows students to meet prerequisites for the classes and to complete the courses in as little time as possible.

Cohort schedules are developed with the intent of meeting the needs of the greatest number of students.  Work schedules, needs of commuter students, etc., are taken into consideration when planning the cohort schedule.  Cohorts are grouped on a MW, TuTh, MTW or TW basis.
Click here for a list of the cohort classes.   Cohort classes are not available in the summer.

Although not part of the Cohort Program, TEPD and CSE (Counseling and Special Education) strongly recommend that you take SPE 504 prior to student teaching.  Please note that SPE 504 will become a requirement which must be completed prior to student teacher.  For further information to determine whether you must meet this requirement, click here.
