CPR Requirements for ARC Students |
|
Standard First Aid and Adult-Child Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required by the State of Michigan for each person being issued an initial teaching certificate. Central Michigan University will not recommend any teacher candidate for certification without assurance that the Standard First Aid and Adult-Child CPR requirements for certification have been met. The ONLY organizations approved by the Michigan Department of Education for meeting the certification requirements are the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. The closest office/training sites can be located by accessing either web site at www.redcross.org or www.americanheart.org. Enter your zip code to locate the chapter nearest you and its point-of-contact for the required courses. Direct web links to the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association can also be found at www.ehs.cmich.edu/css. Each individual recommended for certification by Central Michigan University must have a valid American Red Cross or American Heart Association course completion card at the time the Michigan Department of Education office approves the individual’s application for certification. Therefore, completing the Standard First Aid and Adult-Child CPR training during student teaching is recommended. Otherwise recommendation for certification will be delayed. The documentation process to ensure that the student has properly completed the Standard First Aid and Adult-Child CPR training is as follows: · The student receives a signed and dated certificate for both the Standard First Aid and Adult-Child CPR training upon completion of each course. · The student must present the original certificates and a photocopy of the front and back of each certificate to the student teacher coordinator. · The student teacher coordinator validates the original certificates; forwards the photocopy to the secretary for the Director of Student Teaching; and returns the original certificates to the student. · The secretary for the Director of Student Teaching will enter the validated information into the TEPD/CSS database and forward the photocopies to the Center for Student Services for recommendation of teacher certification to the Michigan Department of Education. Any questions regarding this process should be directed to Ann Neal at neal1al@cmich.edu or (989) 774-4411. |
