ADMISSION PROCEDURES for the January 2009 Cohort (ARC VI)

In order to be considered for admission to the ARC program, a student must meet the following criteria:

 

  • Completion of a pre-application conference with the ARC Advisor. This can be done by phone or in person to assess candidate's preparedness for the program and to answer procedural questions. Call 989-774-3309 with questions.
     
  • A completed bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university or college with a 2.70 GPA at graduation or in the most recently completed 45 credits. The degree must have been awarded by August, 2008.
     
  • A completed major or minor in subjects that CMU certifies for Secondary Education with a minimum 2.70 GPA in the major and minor. CMU will evaluate coursework submitted to determine remaining requirements, if any, to complete the qualifying major and minor.   • Passing scores for the Michigan Basic Skills Test (Test #96). This commercial test is required by the State of Michigan for teacher education program candidates. The test is offered only in January, April, July, and October at designated test sites throughout Michigan. Registration is accepted at www.mttc.nesinc.com. October, 2008, is the latest test date acceptable for admission to the January, 2009, cohort.
     
  • Passing scores on the candidate's major and minor MTTC subject area tests. The test must be completed no later than the October testing date prior to the student's admission. Please note that students completing a major and a minor will be required to take tests in both the major and minor subjects.
To apply for the ARC program and admission to CMU, the candidate must submit the listed application materials to

                   by Friday, September 26, 2008.
 

 
  • Application to CMU's Graduate School as a non-degree graduate student seeking teacher certification with the non-refundable $35 application fee, payable to CMU.
  • ARC application form with non-refundable $115 application fee payable to CMU. The ARC application will be directly provided by the ARC advisor at kridl1vr@cmich.edu.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended except CMU.
Admission is competitive and is based on:
 
  • Evaluation of the completed ARC application, including academic preparation, testing, and clear legal status.
  • Composite score consisting of GPA and "priority points" for high-need" majors and minors as listed on application.

NOTIFICATION OF ADMISSION

Admission to the Graduate School:
  • Candidates will receive a letter informing them of their admission to the Graduate School as a non-degree graduate student. The letter includes information about the College of Graduate Studies orientation program that students may choose to attend.
  • A $25 fee is assessed for the orientation program regardless of whether or not students choose to attend. The fee must be paid before students can be registered for classes. It is recommended that students pay the orientation fee as soon as possible in order to register in a timely manner. Contact the College of Graduate Studies regarding payment at 989-774-4723.
Admission to the ARC Program:
Students who are admitted to the ARC Program will receive a letter informing them of their admission to the program. Orientation information will be forwarded to students after admission.
