Pursuing an M.A. in
Secondary Education |

The ARC Program includes coursework that can be applied
toward the MA in Secondary Education. Students who obtain their
initial teaching certification through the ARC Program only need to
complete 18 additional graduate hours to obtain the MA in Secondary
Educaiton. Steps to completion of the MA in Secondary Education after certification through ARC: 1. Apply to the graduate school for admission as a degree-seeking student; (students in the ARC Program will have been admitted to the Graduate School as non-degree graduates) 2. After admission, meet with his/her assigned advisor; and 3. Successfully complete 18 hours of coursework within 5 years. a. 2 graduate courses in the student's major or minor (3 credits each) b. EDU 614 - Advanced Educational Psychology (3 credits) c. 1 of the following courses (3 credits) EDU 609 - History of Education EDU 611 - Philosophy of Education EDU 613 - Current Educational Issues d. EDU 625 or EDU 628 (3 credits) e. EDU 780 - Master of Arts Capstone Seminar (3 credits) Upon completion of the coursework: 1. The student will be awarded an MA in Secondary Education, and; *2. The student will be recommended for the Professional Teaching Certificate in Michigan. * Students must complete 3 successful years of teaching experience within the realm of their teaching certificate and submit an application for Professional Certification prior to recommendation. |
