Since its founding in 1892, Central Michigan University has been a leader in the field of teacher education. The teacher education program prepares students for the multiple roles of classroom teacher, school team member, community leader, and education advocate.

CMU is the only university in Michigan to offer a residential college program designed specifically for education and human service students to live and work with others who share their academic and career interests.

Did You Know ?

CMU was the first university in the state to implement education programs fulfilling No Child Left Behind requirements.
Norma Bailey was named the 2007 Michigan Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
The Michigan Department of Education granted CMU “Exemplary Performance” for its teacher education program – the highest rating from the state for teacher preparation programs.
CMU is the only institution to incorporate the Michigan Literacy Progress Program (MLPP) certification modules into its elementary reading curriculum while also offering a single class for MLPP certification to students who are not planning to minor in reading.
TEPD was the first institution in the state of Michigan to offer a middle level endorsement.
